Joe Darling – Executive Chairman
Mr. Darling joined Arthrosurface, Inc. in September of 2016. He is an accomplished healthcare business executive with over 25 distinguished career years in both the pharmaceutical and medical device markets. Joe has a deep background spanning a variety of senior management and operational roles with both public and privately held companies including strategic planning, clinical and medical affairs, regulatory and quality, global commercialization, sales force development and optimization, market development, research and development, human resources, finance, investor relations, business development including M&A. Mr. Darling has held various senior management positions with publicly traded global companies including Linvatec Corporation, Smith and Nephew, Wyeth-Ayerst Pharmaceuticals, Baxter International, and Abbott Laboratories. Most recently, Mr. Darling served as Chief Operating Officer for Interventional Spine, Inc. a privately held spine company where he was responsible for the overall strategic worldwide operations and market development. His specialization includes product and market development, deep experience working with professional societies and organizations, business development, global commercial expansion. Mr. Darling also serves as board director for Ossio Intergrative Orthopedics, and has held past boards seats with MJP Innovations, and Serica technologies.
Steve Ek – President & CEO
Steve is one of the founders of Arthrosurface® and became the first employee of the company in 2002, after serving as the vice president of engineering at Primo Medical Group, (Formerly, STD Med). Steve has over 28 years of experience in the commercialization of orthopedic devices and implants, with a focus on the design, manufacture and clinical/regulatory elements of new product development. Prior to STD Med, Steve was Director of Research and Development for Smith & Nephew Endoscopy, a leading medical device company. Steve started his medical products career as a design engineer at Linvatec, a high growth arthroscopy and sports medicine company.
Steven J. Tallarida – Chairman of the Board of Directors
teven brings to Arthrosurface® a broad expertise in leading new medical products to market with 27 years of experience in manufacturing devices for the medical products industry. Steve has been President of Primo Medical Group (formerly STD Med, Inc.) for over 25 years, during which time he transformed Primo Medical Group from a defense manufacturing company to an ISO9001 and ISO13485 certified, FDA Registered medical device design and manufacturing company. Steve is also a founder in AngioLink Corporation; a medical device start-up focused on the markets of interventional cardiology and wound management that was acquired by Medtronic in 2004. Additionally, he was also a founder for Spirus Medical; an upper enteroscopy spiral technology, which was acquired by Olympus in 2011. Steven serves as President of CardioSolutions; a percutaneous mitral valve repair system and he is on the Board of Directors of Saphena Medical, a novel endoscopic vein harvesting technology and Versago Vascular Access, a unprecedented “reverse needle” vascular access port. Annually, the Primo Medical Group Charter looks to establish, fund and “spin out” two technologically advanced product companies in the Medical Device space.
Frank Fedorowicz – Executive Vice President
Mr. Fedorowicz has more than thirty years operations and financial management experience with emerging high growth companies. Prior to joining Arthrosurface, Frank was the Vice President & CFO for Orthopaedic Synergy, Inc., a holding company for subsidiaries in the U.S., France and New Zealand, that specialized in total joint replacement, navigation, and surgical instruments. From 2000 through 2009, Frank was the Chief Operating and Financial Officer for Primo Medical Group (formerly STD Med, Inc.), a developer and manufacturer of various medical devices. While at Primo Medical, Frank also held a leadership position inside an executive management team responsible for the launch of three medical device companies: Arthrosurface, Inc., Spirus Medical, Inc. and Cardiosolutions, Inc. He holds a BS in Accounting from Bentley University and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts.
Lisa M. Donnelly has more than 15 years of progressively responsible experience identifying unmet needs used to develop market leading product portfolios within the orthopedic space during her tenure at both DePuy Synthes Mitek and Smith & Nephew. She has extensive experience in global product launches and in developing marketing campaigns to drive growth within existing product lines. Her experience in market development on a global level is most notable in her results establishing the hip arthroscopy market while at Smith & Nephew. She holds a BS/MS in Engineering from University Massachusetts Lowell and an MBA from Babson College.
Lester Fehr – Vice President of Business Development
Lester is a seasoned sales and marketing executive with 30 years of experience in the Medical Device industry. He began his career as a Hospital Administrator in the 80’s followed by a move into medical device sales as a total joint and specialty product distributor in the early 90’s. Later, Lester transitioned into Sport Medicine, taking on a corporate role as the Director of International Business with Smith & Nephew Endoscopy. In 2002, after a successful decade of growing the International and US business, he left Smith & Nephew to lead the commercialization responsibilities at Arthrosurface, a specialty orthopaedics startup. Lester is multilingual and multicultural, has extensive experience in sales management, strategic planning and marketing, with travel expertise in all major global device markets. Over the last 3 decades, he has developed strong surgeon relationships in arthroscopy and orthopaedics and is well versed in a broad range of orthopaedic technologies including Total Joints, Sports Medicine and Biologics. Developing business and technology partnerships, integrating mergers and product management are all key areas of expertise.
Gregory Butterfield – Vice President, Supply Chain Management
Greg has over 27 years of experience in the field of total Supply Chain Management gained through his work at high volume, world class companies in the medical, military and commercial fields. Prior to joining Arthrosurface, Greg held Senior level and management positions at Honeywell, Texas Instruments, and Davol, a medical supplier and subsidiary of C. R. Bard, Inc. His educational background includes a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Massachusetts, and a MBA and Supply Chain Management certificate.
Matthias R. Schurhoff, MD – Vice President, Clinical Operations and Scientific Affairs
Matthias has over 17 years of experience in musculoskeletal research and education. Prior to joining Arthrosurface, he served as Director of Research at UHZ Sports Medicine Institute – University of Miami. He has published numerous scientific articles in the peer-reviewed literature on subjects of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine. He has extensive experience in development, conduct and dissemination of funded and original research as well as in the management of FDA clinical trials. He has earned his medical degree at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany.
Dawn J. Wilson – Vice President, Quality & Regulatory
Dawn brings over 22 years of experience in the medical device industry across a multitude of disciplines, including Manufacturing Engineering & Product Development, Quality Engineering, Quality Assurance / Quality Control and Regulatory Affairs. She began and spent a large part of her career at US Surgical Corporation (now Covidien) and contributed to several smaller, privately held medical device companies before landing at Arthrosurface in 2006. Dawn’s educational background includes a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University and a MS in Engineering Management from the University of Bridgeport. Dawn holds the following ASQ quality certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt, Quality Engineer, Quality Manager & Quality Auditor
Shane Shankle – Vice President of US Sales
Shane has over 12 years of sales experience in the Medical industry. Prior to joining Arthrosurface, he was in Specialty Pharmaceutical sales with Kos and Novartis. In his 7 years with Arthrosurface, he has risen from a territory sales consultant to the US Director of Sales. His excellent track record of sales growth, team building and business management has been a significant asset to Arthrosurface. Shane manages a team of over 30 direct Arthrosurface Sales people and a network of more than 100 distributors. He has strong business and surgeon relationships throughout the US and is a key contributing member of the Executive Team.
